Busier than a one-armed paperhanger (no offense to you one armed paperhangers)

I have been busy. How about you? I’ve not spent a lot of time on this blog, but I’ve been setting up a facebook account (both personal and music), and also setting up the music in the ilike application program. Not to mention one full time job, 2 part time jobs. Volunteering time at the ARC, The County Legislature and Carenet. Oh, and I have a family, including one kid in college. Somewhere somehow, in all that, I try to write music. Been awhile. I am, you guessed it, busy. But as far as this blog, I am now beginning some new thoughts. I plan to start a conversation (with myself, if no one else logs in), on different aspects of worship. Perhaps some thoughts on worship leading as well. I’m still in process with the book/manual on worship leading. I’m just….busy. How about you? If you’re one of the dozen or so that check in here every once in awhile, please add your comments. I know you’re here, as I see the visit counts. But most just tip toe around, and don’t leave a note. Might as well. Anyway, my first thought will go up in a few days. Likely to be a question. What is it about music that moves us, hits us so deep. Why not, like, smells. Or, walking. Or, reading. Why music? Well, that’s a thought that I’ll expound on in another posting. But, for now, here’s a  hello to you sneak in sneak out visitors. I saw you. Can’t hide.  Might as well say hello as well.

Thank you for saying Hi. It gets lonely in here with all the walk bys who don’t say hi. So, HI! and thanks

See…I knew there were more. Hi, and thanks for dropping in.

  5. Yes – there is something about music, especially worship music that touches us deep inside, and can make us laugh, cry or feel something beyond words. Even during the dark times when I’m struggling
(“Lord I believe, help me with my unbelief”), we will sing a song in choir and as I ponder the words……
“But thou oh Lord, are a shield to me, the glory and the lifter of my head”
I remember the overwhelming feeling of awe that the words inspired….
    amazing grace……
    Hugs
    Kath

  7. Hey Ken,
It’s good to get back to your blog.
As some of you know, we’re ending our saturday service this week and moving it to sunday mornings at 11:15. A special thanks to all of you who have helped that ministry over the last 7 years, and especially Ken who has been an excellent sounding board for me to express my thoughts and concerns about leading worship.
    Tom

  8. Hi Ken. Missed you the last couple of Sundays. Sorry to hear you’ve not felt well. Regarding music…I’ve always felt it sort of by-passes the brain and goes straight to the heart…that’s why it’s so powerful, and, when expounding the wrong message, potentially dangerous! I don’t think a lot of people take it seriously. I think muscians have a soap box, and their message is preached in a powerful way–for good or evil. I think we need to be very careful about what we allow ourselves to listen to for those reasons. Before I was a Christian, I listened to all sorts of music. I am much more selective now. I have tried to teach my kids to be discerning. I don’t know how I’m doing with that, probably could do better. A note is a note is a note, but the spirit and message behind them makes all the difference. Sorry I don’t have time to develop these thoughts and make them sound convincing and intelligent :) I only know how I feel.

This is your Mother-in-law dropping in. What do you do at the two part time jobs. I’m guessing nursing for one. Need to get a birthday card written to your ‘first born’.

Dad and I are doing fairly well. Our first Sunday back to church, Dad said he missed Northgate. Think I did too. We do like their services. I’m not as involved with choir this year. Feeling Dad needs me more.

And yes, many times the music speaks to me more than the preaching.
Music of many varieities can put me on high.

    Love, Mom

Thanks Tom. I have also enjoyed and appreciated your input. 7 years well spent. Just a different day/time. Keep getting after it

Thanks for the comments Dee. Music seems to be involved in many of our “life lessons”. I also have seen the influence (in a not so good way) before I was a Christian. Or perhaps better to say, before I really saw and heard what I was doing. I’ve always tried to express to my kids, that the music in and of itself is not evil. It is how it is used, and in a more subtle way, how it makes us feel. Some music can make us self absorbed. Some can actually make us feel vengeful. But there is undeniably something about it that hits us deep, and when we are aware of that, and can master it’s place in our life, there is truly nothing like it.

Watch out folks. My Mother-in-law is on the site. Watch what you say. (I am SO kidding). Thanks for leaving a note, and glad to hear you are doing “fairly” well. Hope it goes up from there. And just for the record, one part time is nursing, and the other is the Hospice Spiritual Coordinator. But actually, the volunteer stuff actually takes more time.

  13. Ken,

I appreciate your words and thoughts. You are an inspiration to me. I am very proud of you and all that you do. Music helps me enter another realm. Depending on what it is it relaxes me. Remember the John Michael Talbot concert? His music was so worshipful I somehow got lost in it even with an auditorium filled with people, until many people around us suddenly started coughing then I was brought back to reality. What an awesome experience though. Love you! Susan

  14. kendegnanmusic Says:

The concert was great because it was simple, but intense. Thanks for the support and love.

  15. What do yah say buddy??? I like that there talk about worship ;)

  16. kendegnanmusic Says:

Hey there John. We only gettin started. Thanks for jumping into the mix

  17. Hey-I stumbled onto this and glad I did! Love the humor and the credit to “you- know-who”…He’s got a plan…

  18. kendegnanmusic Says:

Thanks Donna. Glad you “fell in”.

  19. Hi! :) I received your link from a friend of mine, Joy Mistur. Thought I’d write something here since, at least on this post, someone sounded “lonely”….which I’m sure you are not being as you are very busy! How do you keep up?? I read your post “Shall We Dance?” Totally can relate to that. Love the picture of Jesus waiting till all the other dancers “clear the floor” so to speak, so He can take our hand, Bridegroom and bride, and dance with us. I love that analogy! Mostly because it is so true. Keep writing. You’re good at it, and your thoughts hit home. God bless you and yours.
